Pacha Mama

“An Incan GODDESS who brings fruit to the vine and joy to the world”.

In 2010, my dad and I stood overlooking Machu Picchu, an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains of  Peru.

While our guide shared stories about Pachamama—an ancient Inca fertility goddess who presides over planting and harvesting - you may know her as Mother Nature —the fog lifted, slowly exposing the transcendent ruins hiding below.

We were told about the ongoing Andean tradition of giving a toast in honour of Pachamama and, in some regions, a special kind of libation (known as a challa) is performed where a small amount of wine is spilled onto the ground to express deep gratitude to their earth mother and to give back to the earth.

This trip inspired the beginnings of Pacha Mama. Fast forward 12 years, and although the reins have been passed down from father to daughter we still live and work by the same core values we wrote down when we started: Innovation, sustainability, authenticity, community, humility and fun.

Above all else we believe that life is short, so you should do what you love and love what you do.

Winemaking

Minimal intervention. Vegan . Small batch.

When it comes to winemaking we check our egos at the door. Our winemaking techniques are focused on retaining the bright varietal and balanced flavours that our meticulous growers work tirelessly to achieve. A combination of innoculated and wild fermentation, minimal intervention and a delicate touch adds complexity to our wines whilst naturally allowing the fruit to shine through. We aim to make approachable, vibrant, and textural wines that can be enjoyed on their own or with your favourite dishes.

Pacha Mama wines highlight the incredible diversity and quality of wine growing regions across Victoria. We believe that great wines are made from great grapes and our job is simply not to stuff it up.

We are always learning, experimenting and constantly striving to craft wines that speak of place, and season but above all else, are balanced and really tasty to drink.

Vineyards

Victorian. Sustainable. Relationships

Over the past decade we have built and nurtured relationships with smaller growers across Victoria. We feel so fortunate to be working with passionate farmers that have established vineyards producing high quality fruit.
